Your sun sign is what everyone calls "your zodiac sign" — the position of the sun in the zodiac at the time of your birth. It describes your conscious identity, your life will, what you want to become in life. This app calculates your sun sign from your date of birth (or refines it if you were born on a transition day) and delivers an AI-supported character reading of your sun.
Why the sun promises so much — and sometimes so little
The sun in astrology is the symbol of the self in the Jungian sense: what you are meant to realize in life, your central life arc, your calling. When the sun is in Leo, your life theme is often visibility, dignity, generosity. When it is in Virgo, refinement, service, precision. These themes get played out across an entire life — never finished, always ripening.
But: the sun sign alone is only one astrological layer. Whoever feels "my sign does not fit me" often has either a very strong other point in the chart (moon or rising sign in a more dominant sign) or has not yet fully integrated the sun. In psychological astrology one says: the sun sign is the task, not the description — something you must learn to be over the course of life.
What the twelve sun signs promise
Aries (Mar 21-Apr 19): initiative, courage, confrontation. Taurus (Apr 20-May 20): stability, sensuousness, persistence. Gemini (May 21-Jun 20): communication, versatility, connection. Cancer (Jun 21-Jul 22): home, care, emotional depth. Leo (Jul 23-Aug 22): dignity, creativity, visibility. Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 22): refinement, service, analysis. Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22): relationship, balance, beauty.
Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21): depth, transformation, truth. Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21): search for meaning, breadth, optimism. Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19): responsibility, building, maturity. Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18): vision, community, originality. Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20): compassion, mysticism, dissolution. Each of these themes is your life-school — not a description of what you already are, but of what you are called to become.
When your sign feels "wrong"
- Check your moon sign and rising sign. In about 30 percent of cases, the moon sign or rising sign is more dominant than the sun — you then live more these energies.
- Observe yourself in crises. In daily life you often play the rising sign. But when all filters fall away — illness, grief, a major decision — your sun emerges. Who is there? That is the real answer.
- Accept the task, not the box. Whoever as an Aquarius is not "revolutionary" has not failed their sun — they are in the middle of slowly integrating Aquarian themes. The sun sign is a life task, not a label.
- Live the principal sign, not the stereotype. Astrology tabloids caricature signs ("Taurus is stubborn, Sagittarius unreliable"). Real sun-sign themes are more subtle. Read serious astrology (Liz Greene, Stephen Arroyo) instead of tabloid descriptions.
FAQ
What if I was born on a cusp day?
If your date of birth falls on the last day of one sign or the first day of the next, the birth time can decide. The sun shifts slightly differently each year — on March 21, depending on the hour, it may still be in Pisces or already in Aries. This app accounts for that. If you were born on a cusp day and do not know the time, the app gives both possible signs.
Is it true there is a "13th sign" Ophiuchus?
Astronomically the sun does indeed pass through the constellation Ophiuchus. Astrologically, however, it is irrelevant. Western astrology has used the tropical zodiac for over 2000 years, which divides the year (equinoxes, solstices) into 12 equal arcs rather than the astronomical constellations themselves. The "Ophiuchus as 13th sign" debate confuses astronomy with astrology. Your sun sign does not change.
Why do astrologers often see the same sign differently?
Because astrology is a hermeneutic discipline — symbols are interpreted, not measured. A "Taurus" can take on different accents depending on the school, tradition and experience of the reader: bourgeois-stabilizing (classical tradition), sensuous-erotic (Liz Greene), artistically Venus-driven (Vedic adaptation). This plurality is no weakness of astrology, but an expression of its symbolic nature — just as literary interpretations vary.
How does "my sun sign" differ from "my natal chart"?
The sun sign is
one point in the
natal chart — the sun position. The full natal chart has 10 planetary positions, 12 houses, many aspects. Whoever knows only the sun sign knows about 10 percent of the chart. Whoever knows sun, moon and rising knows about 40 percent. Whoever reads a complete chart knows everything. The question "what sun sign?" is the front door — everything behind it is what astrology really consists of.
