Try Natal Chart now for free. Online reading with AI interpretation in seconds, no signup required.

If the sun reveals your zodiac sign, that is only one of ten astrological layers. The full natal chart (also Radix or birth chart) shows the position of all planets, houses and aspects at the exact moment of your birth — a two-dimensional map of the sky as it appeared for that specific place and second. This app calculates the central trinity: sun, moon and rising sign. AI interpretation in seconds.

    More than a sun sign

When someone asks "What sign are you?", they are asking for the position of the sun in your natal chart. But the sun is only one factor of many. Your moon describes your emotional inner world — what you need to feel safe. Your rising sign describes how you appear to others — the mask with which you meet the world. Whoever knows only the sun sign knows at most a third.

These three points are often called the Holy Trinity of astrology. A person with sun in Taurus (calm, sensual), moon in Scorpio (intense, deep) and rising in Gemini (communicative, versatile) is a completely different person from someone with sun, moon and rising all in Taurus — even though both are "Taurus" in the magazine sense. The app delivers exactly this differentiation.

What the three main points say about you

The sun is your identity, your will, your conscious expression — what you want to become in life. It stands for father, authority, your central life shaping. The sign in which your sun sits shapes your principal character — but how it unfolds depends on aspects and house position.

The moon is your emotional truth, your unconscious, your reactions without filter. It stands for mother, home, security, childhood. If your moon is in Cancer, you need a domestic, familiar atmosphere. If it is in Aquarius, you need freedom and intellectual distance, even if your sun is in Cancer. The rising sign is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment you were born. It is your social persona — how you come across, how others first perceive you, often quite differently from your sun.

    FAQ

What if I do not know my birth time?
The algorithm can still calculate sun and moon — they change only slightly per day. The rising sign, however, cannot be reliably determined, because it changes every 2 hours. If you know the time within a 4-hour window, there is an astrological technique called rectification that determines the rising sign backward from life events. That goes beyond this app, but specialized astrologers offer it.
Why do Western and Vedic natal charts differ?
Both systems use the same zodiac, but different calculation methods. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac (anchored to the equinox), Vedic astrology the sidereal (anchored to the actual constellations). The difference is about 24 degrees — almost an entire sign. A Western Taurus may be a Vedic Aries. Both systems are internally consistent; they measure different things. This app uses the tropical system.
Is the chart deterministic — am I "fated" by my birth?
Classical astrology (Ptolemy, the medieval tradition) tends toward a deterministic reading: the chart is fate. Modern psychological astrology (Liz Greene, Stephen Arroyo) reads the chart as predisposition that you can live in different ways — from unconscious pawn to conscious shaper of your dispositions. Most contemporary astrologers hold the second position: the chart shows your tools, not your outcome.
How does the natal chart differ from the <a href="/horoskope/tageshoroskop">daily horoscope</a> or <a href="/astrologie/zodiak-kompatibilitat">compatibility</a>?
The natal chart is static — a map of your moment of birth, the same for life. The daily horoscope is dynamic — how today's planets stand to your birth chart. Compatibility is relational — how your chart fits with another person's. The three are layers of the same system. Whoever has understood the natal chart can only then truly interpret the other two applications.
Why do many scientists distrust astrology?
Because the central astrological claim (planetary positions influence people) has so far not been validated by double-blind trial. The famous Carlson experiments (1985) showed no astrological effect. Astrologers counter that astrology is a qualitative system, not a quantitative one — comparable to literature or hermeneutics, not to physics. Where you stand in this debate is a philosophical decision, not an empirically settleable question.
