While the life path number arises from your date of birth, the personality number comes from your name — more precisely, from the consonants of your first name. It describes the way you show yourself to the world, your social style, the picture others get of you. This app calculates it and delivers an AI reading of your numerological personality.

Why the consonants?

Pythagorean numerology assigns a number to each letter: A=1, B=2, C=3, ..., I=9, J=1 (starting over), K=2, L=3, ... For the personality number, only the consonants of your name are added. The vowels are used for the motivation number (inner desire). The logic: vowels carry the voice, the breath, the inner. Consonants give form, structure, outer effect. Who you appear to be on the outside — those are the consonants.

Example: name "MARIA". Consonants M-R = 4+9 = 13 = 1+3 = 4. Personality number 4. This number describes how Maria appears outwardly: solid, structured, reliable. If she additionally has a life path 7 (inner seeker), an interesting picture emerges: someone who appears outwardly as a pragmatic builder but inwardly is a mystic. These discrepancies are typical and often the most exciting numerological readings.

What the nine personality numbers send out

1: appears independent, leading, sometimes unapproachable. 2: appears accessible, cooperative, sensitive. 3: appears charismatic, sociable, expressive. 4: appears reliable, serious, structured. 5: appears dynamic, unpredictable, adventurous. 6: appears warm, motherly/fatherly, advising. 7: appears mysterious, intellectual, distant. 8: appears authoritative, successful, powerful. 9: appears charismatic, wise, exalted.

Important to understand: the personality number is the first perception — before others get to know you. It is the numerological cousin of the astrological rising sign. Whoever knows you for years sees more your life path number and your motivation number; at the first meeting they see the personality number. That explains why some people only "on closer acquaintance" appear different than at the first encounter.

What you can do with your personality number

FAQ

Which name counts — birth name or current name?
In the classical Pythagorean tradition, the full birth name (as it appears on the birth certificate) counts. It is the name you entered this life with. Later name changes (marriage, adoption, voluntary change) create additional numerological layers but do not replace the original. Some numerologists read both names and compare — the "new" name shows how you appear today, the "old" shows your roots.
What if my name is not in the Latin alphabet?
Pythagorean numerology is designed for the Latin alphabet. For names in other scripts (Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese) there are two approaches: a) transliteration (transferring into Latin letters and then numerological calculation), b) culture-specific numerology (gematria in Hebrew, Lo Shu in China). Both are valid. This app uses the transliteration method for non-Latin names.
Why is J = 1 and not 10?
Because the Pythagorean alphabet uses only the numbers 1 through 9 — anything larger is reduced to a single digit. After I (9), the count starts over with J = 1, K = 2, L = 3, and so on. This reduction to nine numbers follows the basic numerological assumption: all qualitative energies can be mapped onto nine ground numbers. That differs from Hebrew gematria, which counts the entire alphabet linearly.
Can I change my personality number by changing my name?
Operationally yes — as soon as you actively live a new name, its numerological layer begins to take effect. But: the birth name remains energetically present. Some numerologists deliberately recommend name changes when someone struggles with their personality number — e.g. adding or removing a middle name to shift the number. That is legitimate, but no magic: a new name without inner change does not work magically.
